Center History

A Legacy of Compassion. A Mission That Continues.

Compassion-Care

Mother of Life Center traces its roots to 1973, when Joanne McOsker founded Catholics for Life in response to the Roe v. Wade decision. One of the organization's primary missions was to support Birthright counseling, offering compassionate, life-affirming assistance to women experiencing unexpected pregnancies.

That ministry later evolved into Problem Pregnancy of Providence, which today is known as Mother of Life Center. For more than five decades, the Center has faithfully served Rhode Island mothers, babies, and families with compassion, dignity, and hope.

Today, Mother of Life Center is Rhode Island's only Catholic pregnancy center that provides medical services, in addition to offering material assistance, parenting education, and spiritual accompaniment. Through this holistic approach, we not only help mothers choose life, but also accompany families on their journey, often helping them reconnect with the sacraments and become active members of parish life.

As we continue this mission, we remain committed to providing Christ-centered, life-affirming care to every pregnant woman who walks through our doors.
